Cortellino Fratelli (CoFra) set up their Cofra safety boot factory in 1938, in Barletta, the heel of Italy.
Initially, they made 10 pairs of shoes a day; Today, Cofra is one of the biggest European safety boot, safety shoe and safety trainer manufacturers. Cofra makes 7 million pairs of safety boots each year! Cofra is now the market leader in the European safety footwear.
The Cofra engineers, stylists and pattern makers give substance to safety shoe ideas. They blend the technical and regulatory (EN ISO 20345) aspects with comfort, design and style.
The safety boot prototypes created in the design area are then tested: fit test, visual checks, manufacturing tests. It is only after this procedure has been completed that they go on to the production stage to become Cofra Safety Boots.
At the chemical laboratory, experiments are carried out on new types of soles which, (depending on where the finished safety boot will be worn), could combine several features: eg flexibility, lightness, softness, design, resistance to slipping, wear, abrasion and low and high temperatures (sole flexing tests where soles are continuously flexed at -50 °C).
This is the kind of research that makes Cofra boots and shoes suitable for the toughest environments.
